How to Dress Emo (for Girls)

If you want some more emo style in your wardrobe then try these tips for some more inspiration.

STEP

  1. Start with hair: Get it professionally layered with side or long bangs that cover your eyes. You can tease it, and straighten it of course. Most emo girls dye their hair a lot. The most common colors are black or bleach blond. If you're scared to start out that wild but you're curious to try it buy simple 4-6 week hair color from Ulta or Hot Topic but, the best hair dye is from Manic Panic. You'll need some hairspray and other styling products to create a look you like. Remember, its your hair, make it unique. You can flip your bangs if you want.
  2. Get a good assortment of clothes: Skinny jeans and band t-shirts will make up most of your outfits. Try to get them directly from the bands' web store or from District Lines because they give more money to the band. Some good clothing brands are Criminal Damage, Iron Fist, Hell Bunny, and Poison Industries. Hot Topic takes a large cut from the sales, giving the bands less money. Telling people this when they say they like your shirt will also give you extra emo points. The jeans can be found at Old Navy, Forever 21, Hot Topic, Pacsun, and Macy's. Its best to get bright neon colors and maybe a pair or two of darker jeans. You can wear plain black hoodies or band hoodies when you get cold. If you live in somewhere with snow, those puffy jackets are appropriate.
  3. Get the basic shoes: The classic black and white or black high-top Converse always work. Also black slip-ons or classic era Vans in dark colors are great. You can look at other wiki hows on how to customize them. This can be as simple as writing things with white-out like your favorite band lyrics or you could just add neon laces. Lately, also, colorful Nike's have been worn by the bravest emos.
  4. Accessorize: Hair bows, wristbands, bracelets, black and white studded belts, neon shoelaces, band pins, safety pins, and anything to do with gore, rib cages, bones, bands, hearts, grenades, guns, Invader Zim, brass knuckles, or vampires.

TIPS

  • Do some research on the internet to find emo looks that you like and try to add your own touch to it.
  • Add pins and patches to personal items as to let everyone know that you love your music. Other items like wristbands in bright colors also work well.
  • Try making your own accessories to liven up dark outfits.
  • Gradually start wearing different items rather than completely changing your style overnight, maybe over the span of a summer.
  • For makeup, look up other wiki hows, good emo makeup is the perfect finisher for a great outfit.
  • It's good to wear colored jeans other than the color black or gray sometimes.
  • If someone asks if you're emo ,say "Ugh. I hate labels." or deny it.
  • Do not cut yourself just to fit into a label.
  • You can be sad or depressed, just don't do it on purpose or you might be called a poseur or wannabe.

WARNINGS

  • Don't turn emo overnight, you'll be called a poseur.
  • Don't ditch your old friends, they don't have to be emo.
  • If your friends don't like your style, don't change for them. Say they're going to have to accept it. But try not to fall out with them because you don't want to be left out. You are who you are, don't change just because others don't like it. If anything, they are just jealous.
  • You just might be called a poseur, but it's still your decision.
  • Some people labeled "emo" tend to smoke, but don't because its not good for you.
  • Don't call yourself emo, or people will call you a poser.
  • Don't do bad in school. Just because you're emo doesn't mean you have to have bad grades or get detention/ have to stay after school. Mainly, you don't have to get in trouble all the time to be emo.
  • Some people don't think of emos the way others do, don't be offended if some people laugh or look at you the wrong way. You are who you are don't let it bother you too much.
  • People who are emo don't ALL cut themselves. Don't do it because it isn't good for you, and it can get you into big time trouble if anyone were to see the cuts/ scars. Honestly, only 1 out of 8 emos actually cut themselves.
